El deber primordial de los estudiantes es transformar cada actividad de la vida en algo con fuerza y belleza. Pero desafortunadamente, el sistema educativo actual no fomenta las cualidades de integridad, unidad y amor, que son el sello de la verdadera educación. Los estudiantes deben darse cuenta de que su vida se van derritiendo como hielo, les interese mejorar o no. Están ciegos y no ven el propósito de la vida; muchos ni siquiera sienten dolor por no saberlo. Sólo uno en un millón se esfuerza por comprender la esencia de la vida. Este esfuerzo es el trampolín para comprenderla. Mucha gente siente que comprar alimentos, ropa, casa, riqueza, servicios y confort constituye la principal meta en la vida. Pero mientras la gente se esfuerce en seguir adelante con este tipo de engaño, la vida se reduce a una tragedia. El día que comprendan el propósito de la vida, experimentarán una
transformación total, de la angustia (vedhana) a la liberación de todo dolor (nirvedhana). (Lluvias de Verano, Cap. 1, 20 de mayo de 1996)

 

It is the foremost duty of students to transform every activity of life into one of strength and beauty. But unfortunately, the education system of today fails to nourish the qualities of wholesomeness, unity and love, which are the hallmarks of true education. Students must realise that their lifespan is fast melting away like ice, whether they care to improve or not. Students of today are blind to the goal of life; many do not even feel the pain of not knowing the purpose of life. Only one in a million strives to realise the essence of life. This striving is the steppingstone for the realisation of the purpose of life. Many people feel that the acquisition of food, clothing, shelter, wealth, conveniences, and comforts constitute the very purpose of life. Life remains a tragedy as long as people toil under this kind of delusion. The day you realise the purpose of life, you undergo a total transformation, from agony (vedhana) to freedom from pain

Los padres de hoy vuelcan demasiado afecto en sus hijos. Pero ese afecto solo no es suficiente. Debe haber tanto ‘amor’ como ‘reglas’. Sólo cuando están presentes no solo el amor sino también la moderación es que el amor resultará beneficioso. Los padres son primordialmente responsables de los malos hábitos de los niños, que son naturalmente inocentes e ignorantes. Hoy en día los padres no se esfuerzan por enseñar a sus hijos un comportamiento apropiado. Los malcrían dándoles dinero y regalos sin límites. Quieren que sus hijos lleguen a ser oficiales, tengan grandes entradas de dinero, acumulen riquezas y lleven una vida cómoda y fácil. Pero no piensan ni por un momento cómo deberían hacer para que sus hijos entiendan la necesidad de cultivar buenas cualidades. Los padres deberían sentirse felices recién cuando ven que sus
hijos llevan vidas intachables, haciéndose un buen nombre y comportándose correctamente. (Discurso Divino, 5 de febrero de 1984)

 

Parents today lavish too much affection on their children. But such affection alone is not enough. There should be both ‘love’ and ‘law’. Only when both love and restraint are present will the love prove beneficial. For all the evil habits of children, who are naturally innocent and uninformed, the parents are primarily responsible. Parents today do not make any efforts to teach proper ways of behaviour to the children. They pamper the children by giving them money and gifts freely. They want their children to become officers, to earn large incomes, acquire wealth and lead a life of comfort and ease. But they do not consider for a moment how they should make the children realise the need to develop good qualities. It is up to parents to teach the children to cultivate right attitudes and moral qualities. Parents should feel happy only when they see their children leading blameless lives, acquiring a good name and behaving properly. (Divine Discourse,

La vida humana es en sí misma sagrada. Pero se vuelve buena o mala de acuerdo a las compañías que tenga. Cuando se mantiene el hierro en polvo, se oxida. Pero cuando al mismo hierro se lo pone al fuego, se libra del óxido, se ablanda, y empieza a brillar. Las partículas de polvo suben hacia el cielo con el viento pero caen a la alcantarilla cuando se juntan con el agua de lluvia. Las partículas de polvo no tienen alas para volar al cielo, ni pies para bajar de un salto. Ambos, su elevación y su caída, suceden por efecto de lo que las acompaña. El lado bueno o malo de ustedes depende del tipo de las compañías en que anden. Las buenas compañías hacen sus vidas sagradas y divinas. Las malas compañías generan malos sentimientos y pensamientos, que los llevan a cometer malos actos. Por lo tanto, es esencial que tengan buenas compañías y
desarrollen su parte humana. (Discurso Divino, 8 de julio de 1996)

 

Human life by itself is very sacred. But it becomes good or bad according to the company with which it is associated. When you keep iron in dust, it gets rusted. But when the same iron is put in fire, it gets rid of its rust, becomes soft, and starts shining. Particles of dust rise up in the sky in the company of wind but fall down into gutter when they are associated with rainwater. The dust particles do not have wings to fly up in the sky, nor have they feet to jump down. Both, their rise and their fall happen by the effect of the company. Your good or bad depends upon the type of company you join. Good company makes you sacred and divine. Bad company gives rise to bad feelings and bad thoughts, which prompt you to perform bad deeds. Therefore, it is essential for you to join good company and develop your humanness. (Divine Discourse, 8 July 1996)

Dharma y Jnana (conducta correcta y sabiduría espiritual) son dos ojos que les han sido dados para descubrir que son únicos y tienen una Divinidad innata. El Dharma indica el buen camino que todo individuo, grupo o sociedad debe tomar. El Dharma destruye al que lo viola y protege al que lo protege. El edificio del Dharma está levantado sobre los cimientos de la Verdad. Nyaya (la justicia) es un atributo esencial del Dharma. Una sociedad, nación o individuo brilla de gloria solo cuando abrazan la justicia, adquiere riqueza dedicándose a la agricultura, al comercio o cualquier otra profesión, y obtiene méritos y gracia divina aceptando la moralidad (neethi) y la rectitud (Dharma). Mientras el Dharma conduce a buenas acciones, es necesario también lograr el Jnana. Todos los sufrimientos y problemas de la vida surgen del sentido de dualidad. Una vez que nos despojamos del ‘yo’ y el ‘mío’ la
percepción de la Divinidad que todo lo penetra puede hacerse realidad. (Discurso Divino, 19 de enero de 1984)

 

Dharma and Jnana (right conduct and spiritual wisdom) are two eyes given to you to discover your uniqueness and your innate Divinity. Dharma indicates the right path which every individual, group or society should follow. Dharma destroys the one who violates it and protects the one who protects it. The edifice of Dharma is erected on the foundation of Truth. Nyaya (justice) is an essential attribute of Dharma. A society, nation or an individual shines with glory only when they adhere to justice, acquire wealth by the pursuit of agriculture, business or any other profession, and acquire merit and divine grace by adhering to morality (neethi) and righteousness (Dharma). While Dharma leads to right action, it is necessary also to acquire Jnana. All the sufferings and problems in life arise from the sense of duality. Once the feeling of ‘I’ and ‘mine’ is got rid of, consciousness of the all-pervading Divinity can be realised. (Divine Discourse, 19 Jan
