La cultura Bharatiya tiene presencia mundial, porque puede corregir y canalizar las emociones y motivos humanos hacia rutas saludables y productivas. Es sagrada, y puede establecer paz y alegría en el corazón de todos. Echa raíces en la vida a través de las madres, y de los niños en su regazo. Sus custodios y promotoras fueron las mujeres; los hombres tienen un rol secundario. Entre las mujeres, las jóvenes estudiantes, que en los días por venir llegarán a ser líderes, deben convertirse en ejemplos que todas las mujeres deseen emular; deben comprender y practicar esta cultura, para que pueda ser preservada y pueda florecer. La determinación de adquirir educación es ahora muy evidente entre las hijas de la nación, y en ellas puede depositarse una gran esperanza, en este campo de la reconstrucción. La educación debe ser para la vida, no solo para ganarse
la vida. Las mujeres han probado, a lo largo de siglos de historia en la India, que tienen el valor, la visión y la inteligencia necesarios para sumergirse en las profundidades de la ciencia y la disciplina espirituales. (Divino Discurso, 26 de julio de 1969)

 

Bharatiya Culture has world-wide presence since it can correct and canalise the human emotions and motives along healthy productive routes. It is sacred and it can establish peace and joy in the hearts of all. It seeks to strike roots into life through the mothers, and the children on their laps. Women have been its custodians and promoters; men have a secondary role. And, among women, the young students who in the coming days will become leaders must become examples whom all women will wish to emulate; they must understand and practise this culture, so that it may be preserved and it may flourish. The keenness to acquire education is now very evident among the daughters of the nation, and so great hope can be placed on them, in this field of reconstruction. Education must be for life, not for a living. Women have proved throughout the centuries in Indian history that they have the courage, the vision, and the intelligence needed to dive into the
depths of spiritual science and discipline. (Divine Discourse, Jul 26, 1969)

Todos los hombres y todas las mujeres son cofres que contienen la Divina Gloria. Sin embargo, ustedes aman a algunos de ellos como amistosos, odian a otros como hostiles, y los dividen en campos y grupos. Cuando alguien es bueno con ustedes, atribuyan esa bondad a la devoción en tal persona; cuando alguien es malo con ustedes, siéntanse felices porque le han dado satisfacción, al convertirse en blanco de su atención. Si alguien daña el cuerpo, los sabios resultan inafectados, porque saben que no son el cuerpo. Si alguien trata de dañar al alma, los sabios saben que eso es imposible, porque el alma está siempre en bienaventuranza. Por medio del sadhana, conviértanse en este tipo de sabios, inafectados por el placer o el dolor, la pérdida o la ganancia, la victoria o la derrota. Sean un testigo, un testigo desinteresado de las vueltas de la fortuna. La indagación (vichara) les
revelará que son meras fantasías de su propia mente. Por medio de Japa (repetición del nombre divino) y Dhyana (meditación), adquieran la unidad con el Universal Absoluto (Parabrahman). (Divino Discurso, 22 de junio de 1969)

 

All men and women are caskets containing the Divine Glory. But you love some of them as friendly, hate some others as unfriendly, and divide them into camps and groups. When someone is good to you, attribute that goodness to godliness in them; when someone is bad to you, be happy that you have given them some satisfaction, by becoming the target for their attention! If anyone harms the body, sages are unaffected, because they know they are not the body! If anyone tries to harm the soul, sages know that it is impossible, for soul is ever in bliss! By means of Sadhana, become that type of sage, unaffected by pleasure and pain, loss or gain, victory or defeat. Be a witness, a disinterested witness of all the gyrations of fortune. Inquiry (vichara) will reveal to you that these are mere fleeting fantasies of your mind. By means of Japa and Dhyana (repetition of and meditation on the divine name), attain oneness with the Universal Absolute (Parabrahmam).

El hogar es el templo en que la familia, cuyos miembros son cada uno un templo andante, se nutre y alimenta. La madre es el sumo sacerdote en esta casa de Dios. El centro de toda casa debe ser el santuario; la fragancia de flores e incienso que de allí emana debe impregnar la casa y purificarla. La madre debe dar el ejemplo, haciendo que el santuario sea el corazón de la casa. Debe imponer disciplina a los niños en cuanto a higiene personal, humildad, hospitalidad, buenos modales y actos de servicio. Mediante el ejemplo y el precepto debe persuadir a los niños a que veneren a los mayores y dediquen algún tiempo, por la mañana y por la tarde, a la oración y la meditación en silencio. La humildad es el incienso con que la casa se inunda. La reverencia es la lámpara que se enciende, con el aceite del amor y la mecha de la fe. Los bendigo para que a través de su fe y su fuerza, en esta
tierra puedan aumentar la devoción y la entrega. (Divino Discurso, 26 de julio de 1969)

 

Home is the temple where the family, each member of which is a moving temple, is nurtured and nourished. Mother is the high priest of this house of God. The centre of every home must be the shrine; the fragrance of flower and incense emanating from there must pervade the home and purify it. Mother must set an example in making the shrine the heart of the household. She must enforce discipline over children in personal cleanliness, in humility, hospitality, good manners and in acts of service. She must persuade children to revere elders by example and precept, and to allot some time both in the morning and evening for prayer and silent meditation. Humility is the incense with which the house is filled. Reverence is the lamp that is lit with love as the oil and faith as the wick. I bless you that through your faith and strength, devotion and dedication may increase in this land. (Divine Discourse, Jul 26, 1969)

Ustedes se dedican a Bhajans (cantos en congregación), puja (adoración) y dhyana (meditación); estos no son más que ejercicios físicos. Pregúntense lo siguiente. ¿Soy capaz de sublimar mi pequeño sadhana (esfuerzo espiritual) para un propósito superior? ¿Vibra mi corazón en mi esfuerzo? Si la respuesta es no, ustedes permanecen en el nivel humano, sin elevarse al estado de lo divino. Un poeta se pregunta «¿Puede llenarse un lago cuando caen solo unas gotas de lluvia? ¿Se puede saciar la sed con la propia saliva? ¿Se obtienen brasas quemando briznas de hierba?». Si se necesita carbón, deben quemarse troncos; solo lluvias torrenciales pueden llenar un lago hasta el borde; nada más que un vaso de agua, y ninguna otra cosa, puede curar la sed de una persona. Ofrezcan su corazón plenamente. La devoción debe llenarlo a
rebosar. (Divino Discurso, 8 de enero de 1083)

 

You engage in Bhajan (congregational chant), puja (worship) and dhyana (meditation) – these are but physical exercises. Ask yourself – Am I able to sublimate my small sadhana (spiritual effort) for a higher purpose? Is my heart vibrating in them? If not, you remain at the human level and are not rising to the state of the Divine. ‘Can the lake be filled when there is only a sprinkle of rain? Can thirst be relieved, when saliva gets in? Can the belly be full, if one’s breath is held tight? Can live cinders be secured by the burning of blades of grass?’ – asks a poet. Logs have to be burned if charcoal is needed; only sheets of rain can fill a lake to the brim; a glass of cold water alone can cure a person of thirst, nothing less. Offer your heart in full. Devotion must fill and overflow from the heart. (Divine Discourse, Jan 8, 1983)
