Había un enorme halo de esplendor iluminando el cielo sobre la villa cuando Cristo nació. Esto significaba que Él, quien superaría la oscuridad de la maldad y la ignorancia había tomado nacimiento, que Él derramará la Luz del Amor en los corazones de todos los hombres y mujeres. Cuando celebran el nacimiento de Cristo, resuelvan llevar vidas realizando servicios amorosos a los débiles, desamparados, angustiados y desconsolados. Sin embargo, la forma en que la Navidad es celebrada ahora muestra ¡cuánto se ha alejado la gente de estos nobles ideales! Se reverencia la hora de la medianoche, se organiza iluminación, el árbol de Navidad está listo, pero entonces, ¿pasan el resto

There was a huge halo of splendour illuminating the sky over the village when Christ was born. This meant that He, who was to overcome the darkness of evil and ignorance had taken birth, that He will spread the Light of Love in the hearts of all men and women. When you celebrate the birth of Christ, resolve to lead your life performing loving service to the weak, helpless, distressed and disconsolate. Cultivate tolerance, forbearance, charity and magnanimity. Hold dear the ideals Jesus taught and practice them in your daily lives. However, the ways in which Christmas is celebrated now shows how far people have moved away from these noble ideals! The midnight hour is revered, illumination is arranged, the Christmas tree is set up, but then, do you spend the rest of the night filling yourself with Divine Bliss? Purify your hearts, perform holy activities, and be loving towards everyone. That is the best way of celebrating Christmas. (Divine Discourse,

¿Qué debería adquirir hoy la gente? La expansión del corazón de modo que pueda se llenado con un amor todo-abarcante. Solamente entonces el sentimiento de unidad espiritual de toda la humanidad puede ser experimentado. Además del sentimiento de unidad, el amor por Dios nacerá. Este amor generará contento en el corazón que será desapegado, indescriptible y eterno. De todas las formas de bienaventuranza, el amor es la fuente. Un corazón sin amor es como una tierra yerma. Alimenten el amor en sus corazones y rediman sus vidas. Cualesquiera sean sus estudios o riqueza, no tienen valor sin amor. Sin devoción todos los otros logros no tienen valía para alcanzar a Dios. Los hombres aspiran la liberación. La verdadera liberación significa libertad de deseos. Hoy en día la gente no puede irse a las selvas para hacer penitencia o mantenerse en

What is it that people should acquire today? It is the broadening of the heart so that it may be filled with all-embracing love. Only then the sense of spiritual oneness of all mankind can be experienced. Out of that sense of unity will be born the love of God. This love will generate pure bliss in the heart that is boundless, indescribable and everlasting. For all forms of bliss, love is the source. A heart without love is like a barren land. Foster love in your hearts and redeem your lives. Whatever your scholarship or wealth, they are valueless without love. Without devotion all other accomplishments are of no avail for realizing God. Men aspire for liberation. True liberation means freedom from desires. Today people cannot go to forests for penance or engage themselves in meditation and other spiritual exercises. The easiest spiritual path for all people is to dedicate all their actions to God. (Divine Discourse, Dec 25, 1994)

Jesús enseñó, lecciones simples y prácticas en al avance espiritual para el bien de la humanidad; Él manifestó poderes divinos para instilar fe en la validez de Sus enseñanzas; Él marcó la senda que confiere el dulce néctar de la bienaventuranza (Ananda) en la humanidad. Exhortó a las personas con preceptos para que cultivaran las virtudes de caridad, compasión, paciencia, amor y fe. Debemos poner atención al sacrificio que llevó a cabo Jesús mientras estaba libre, fuera de Su propia voluntad. Él sacrificó Su felicidad, prosperidad, posición, comodidad y seguridad y se enfrentó a la hostilidad de los poderosos. Se rehusó a ceder o transigir. Renunció al ego, lo cual es la cosa más dura de desechar. Hónrenlo por estas cosas. Él voluntariamente entregó los
deseos con los que el cuerpo atormentan al hombre; este es un gran sacrificio. Jesus taught simple practical lessons in spiritual advancement for the good of mankind; He manifested divine powers to instill faith in the validity of His teachings; He marked out the path that confers sweet nectar of bliss (Ananda) on humanity. He exhorted people by precept to cultivate the virtues of charity, compassion, forbearance, love and faith. We must pay attention to the sacrifice that Jesus made while free, out of His own volition. He sacrificed His happiness, prosperity, position, comfort, and safety, and braved the enmity of the powerful. He refused to yield or compromise. He renounced the ego, which is the toughest thing to get rid of. Honour Him for these. He willingly gave up the desires with which the body torments man; this is a great sacrifice. The celebration of His birthday has to be marked by your sacrificing at least a desire or two, and conquering at least the more disastrous urges of the ego. (Divine Discourse, Dec, 24,

El obstáculo más grande en el sendero de la entrega es el egoísmo y la ‘mío- idad’ o posesividad. Esto ha estado enterrado en sus personalidades por eras, enviando sus tentáculos más y más profundo con cada vida sucesiva. Solo puede ser removido con los detergentes gemelos del discernimiento y la renunciación. La devoción es el agua que lavará eta antigua suciedad, y la repetición del nombre de Dios, la meditación y la comunión (yoga) son el jabón que permiten que la limpieza se más rápida y efectiva. Los aspirantes lentos y persistentes seguramente ganarán esta carrera; caminar es el método más seguro para viajar, ¡a pesar de ser condenado como lento! Más rápido significa, mayor riesgo de desastre. Deberían comer solo lo necesario para saciar su hambre, más causará desorden.

The greatest obstacle on the path of surrender is egoism and ‘mine-ness’ or possessiveness. This is buried in your personality since ages, sending its tentacles deeper and deeper with every succeeding life. It can be removed only by the twin detergents of discrimination and renunciation. Devotion is the water to wash away this age old dirt, and the repetition of God’s name, meditation, and communion (yoga) are the soap that will make the cleansing more effective and quicker. The slow and steady aspirants will surely win this race; walking is the safest method of travel, though it may be condemned as slow! Quicker means of travel guarantees disaster; quicker the means, greater the risk of disaster. You should eat only as much as is needed to satiate your hunger, more will cause disorder. Similarly, proceed step by step in spiritual effort with faith; do not slide back two paces with one pace forward. (Divine Discourse, Oct 7, 1993)
