Cuando las fuerzas de la injusticia, la inmoralidad y la falsedad crecen en proporciones monstruosas y se complacen en la danza – mortal, cuando el egoísmo y el interés personal están acrecentándose, cuando los hombres y mujeres han perdido todo sentido de bondad y compasión, el principio Átmico, asumiendo la forma de la Divinidad, emerge para destruir estos elementos malvados. Éste es el significado interno del festival de Dasara. Cada quien debe decidir por sí mismo si son Ravana o Rama de acuerdo con las cualidades que manifiestan en el diario vivir. ¿Quién es Ravana y sus diez cabezas? Kama (lujuria), Krodha (ira), Moha (engaño), Lobha (avaricia), Mada (orgullo), Matsarya (envidia), Manas (la mente), Buddhi (intelecto), Chitta (voluntad) y Ahamkara (el Ego). Estos diez constituyen las diez cabezas. La arrogancia es un demonio. Los malos pensamientos son demonios. Rama es

When forces of injustice, immorality and untruth grow to monstrous proportions and indulge in a death-dance, when selfishness and self-interest are rampant, when men and women have lost all sense of kindness and compassion, the Atmic principle, assuming the form of Divine, emerges to destroy the evil elements. This is the inner meaning of the Dasara festival. Each one must decide for themselves whether they are Ravana or Rama according to the qualities they manifest in daily living. Who is Ravana and what are his ten heads? Kama (lust), Krodha (anger), Moha (delusion), Lobha (greed), Mada (pride), Matsarya (Envy), Manas (the mind), Buddhi (intellect), Chitta (will) and Ahamkara (the Ego) – these ten constitute the ten heads. Arrogance is a demon. Bad thoughts are demons. Rama is the destroyer of the bad qualities. La vida de cada hijo está en alto grado influenciada por las cualidades de los padres. El cuidado amoroso de la madre Jijabai hizo de Shivaji un gran guerrero. Gandhi se convirtió en un Mahatma por su piadosa madre Putlibai. Putlibai guardaba un voto estricto en el que ella debía esperar el canto del cucú antes de tomar su alimento. Cierto día, esperó por un largo tiempo que el cucú cantara sin tomar ningún alimento. El joven Gandhi no podía soportar ver a su madre ayunando por tanto tiempo. Por consiguiente, fue afuera de la casa e imitó el canto del cucú. Luego entró y dijo: «Madre, toma tu alimento ahora, ya que escuchamos al cucú.» Incapaz de soportar la tristeza porque su hijo mintiera, abofeteó a Gandhi y le gritó: «¡Qué pecado he cometido yo para que me haya nacido un mentiroso!» Gandhi, inmediatamente se arrepintió y

Every child’s life is greatly influenced by parents’ qualities. The loving care of mother Jijabai made Shivaji a great warrior. Gandhi became a Mahatma because of his pious mother Putlibai. Putlibai observed a strict vow wherein she would wait for the cooing of the cuckoo before having food. One day, she waited for a very long time for the cuckoo’s call without taking food. The young Gandhi could not bear to see his mother fasting for such a long time. Hence, he went out of the house and imitated a cuckoo’s coo. Then he came inside and said, «Mother, please take your food now, as we heard the cuckoo.» Unable to contain her grief that her son lied, she slapped Gandhi and cried, «What sin did I commit that a liar should be born to me!» Gandhi immediately repented and prayed for her forgiveness. El festival de Dasara honra la victoria de los devas (deidades) sobre los asuras (demonios)- las fuerzas de la rectitud por sobre las de la maldad. Ellas ganaron porque Parashakthi (el aspecto dinámico de la Divinidad), el Poder que ha elaborado a Dios en toda esta variedad y belleza, asistió para darles socorro y luchó de su parte. La compañía Sagrada tal como esta, ayuda a despertar el deseo de conocerse uno mismo, de conocer la verdadera naturaleza del mundo circundante y de conocer cómo descubrir y experimentar la unidad de ambos, así lo expresa la máxima védica: ‘Tú eres eso’. Es a través de la sutil influencia de la compañía en la que fue inducido que Narada, el hijo de una criada, fue transformado en el mayor practicante y el principal exponente del Bhakti- marga (senda de la devoción); que Valmiki, un asaltante de caminos, fue transmutado en

The Dasara festival honours the victory of the devas (God) over the asuras (demons) – the forces of righteousness over the forces of evil. They won because Parashakthi (the dynamic aspect of Divinity), the Power that has elaborated God into all this variety and beauty, came to give them succour and fight on their behalf. Holy company such as this helps to arouse the desire to know oneself, to know the true nature of the world around us and to know how to discover and experience the unity of both, expressed as the vedic dictum, ‘That-thou-art’. It is through the subtle influence of the company into which he was inducted that Narada, the son of a maid, was transformed into the foremost practitioner and exponent of Bhakti-marga (path of devotion); that Valmiki, a highway robber, was transmuted into a great sage and foremost amongst poets; and that many sinners were shown the path of repentance and redemption. – Divine Discourse, Sep 26,
