Si permanecen despiertos durante doce horas para Shivaratri (el festival del Señor Shiva) debido a una enfermedad, esta vigilia no ganará Su favor. Si riñen con su cónyuge y desisten de alimentarse durante un día entero, esto no será registrado en el libro de Dios como un ayuno. Recuerden: ningún bhokta (persona centrada en el deleite) puede ser bhakta (devoto); nadie que se fije en el beneficio derivado del servicio a Dios, puede ser un auténtico devoto. Un día la gente alaba a Rama hasta el cielo, y al día siguiente, si su fortuna se ha secado, lo censura. De la misma manera, aquellos que declaran «mi Dios es grande y los demás son pequeños» no conocen los elementos de la disciplina espiritual, y no son aptos para ingresar en el campo del servicio espiritual. Dhana (el dinero) es el efectivo del mundo; Sadhana es el efectivo del espíritu. El

If you keep awake throughout twelve hours on Shivaratri (festival of Lord Shiva) due to illness, the vigil will not win His favour. If you quarrel with your spouse and desist from food for one full day, it will not be recorded in the book of God as a fast. Remember, no bhokta (enjoyer) can be a bhaktha (devotee); anyone with an eye on profit they derive from service to God, can never be a true devotee. People praise Rama to the skies one day and decry Him the next, when their fortune is dry. Similarly, those who declare ‘My God is great and others are small’, do not know the elements of spiritual discipline and are unfit for entering the field of spiritual service. Dhana (money) is the currency of the world; Sadhana is the currency of the spirit. La riqueza material produce no solo alegría, sino también pena. La acumulación de riquezas solo conduce a una alternancia entre alegrías y penas. El apego es la causa fundamental tanto de la alegría como de la pena; el desapego es el salvador. El apego (ashakti) es la muerte (maraka), el desapego (anashakti) es el salvador (tharaka). Un millonario paga sus impuestos con lágrimas en los ojos; un director entrega alegremente el mobiliario y los enseres de laboratorio de su escuela, cuando es trasladado a otro sitio. ¿Por qué? Porque el director sabe que es solo el encargado, no el propietario. No está apegado a esos artículos; sabe que pertenecen al gobierno. Así también, sientan ustedes que su familia, su casa, sus terrenos, su automóvil, etc., son todos propiedades del Señor, y que ustedes solo son los depositarios; estén dispuestos a entregarlos

Material wealth brings along with it, not only joy but grief as well. Accumulation of riches and multiplication of wants only lead to alternation between joy and grief. Attachment is the root-cause for both joy and grief; detachment is the saviour. Attachment (Ashakti) is death (maraka); non-attachment (anashakti) is the saviour (tharaka). A millionaire pays income-tax with tears in his eyes; a headmaster joyfully gives up the furniture and laboratory appliances of his school when he is transferred to some other place. Why? Because the headmaster knows that he is only the caretaker, not the owner. He is not attached to these articles; he knows that they belong to the government. So too feel that your family, your house, your fields, your car, and so on are all the Lord’s property and that you are only the trustee; be ready to give them up without a murmur at a moment’s notice. -Divine Discourse, Aug 19, 1964

Las pruebas son evidencia de la gracia, no de la ira. El aspecto terrible de Dios no es, en esencia, terrible. Se describe a Dios como Raso vai sah: Él es la dulzura misma. ¿Cómo puede la dulzura volverse amarga? La Divinidad es un espejo inmaculadamente limpio; en él ustedes ven su propio reflejo. Si tienen propensión al terror, el reflejo que ven les produce terror. Si tienen propensiones serenas e inocuas, el reflejo será tierno y suave. No culpen a la Divinidad, como hace la mayoría. Cuando todo anda bien, dicen que Dios está muy cerca de ustedes; cuando algo sale mal, dicen que Dios los ha abandonado y se ha ido lejos. Él nunca se desplaza, ni lejos ni cerca. La distancia entre Él y ustedes es exactamente la misma que hay entre ustedes y Él. Él está en todas partes. Está siempre en su corazón. Reconózcanlo allí; percíbanlo
como lo más inmediato y cercano a ustedes. Él es su propio Sí Mismo, ni terrible ni tierno; simplemente «es». (Divino Discurso, 30 de mayo de 1974)

 

Tests are evidences of grace rather than of anger. The terrible aspect of God is not terrible in essence. God is described as Raso vai sah – He is sweetness Itself. How can sweetness ever become bitter? Godhead is a spotlessly clean mirror; you see in it your own reflection. When you have terror-striking propensities, the reflection you see strikes terror into you. When you have soft harmless propensities, the reflection will be tender and soft. Do not cast blame on Godhead, as most people do. When everything goes right, you say God is very close to you; when something goes wrong, you say God has deserted you and gone afar! He never moves far or near. The distance from Him to you is the exact same distance from you to Him. He is everywhere. He is always in your heart. Recognise Him there; realise Him as closest and nearest to you. He is your own Self, neither terrible nor tender, but simply ‘is’. – Divine Discourse, May 30, 1974

Navarathri se celebra en conmemoración de la victoria de “Daivatwam” (la Divinidad) sobre “Danavatvam” (los demonios) por medio de la intercesión del “Mahashakti” en la forma de Chandi, Durga y Kali. “Deepavali” conmemora la victoria de las influencias celestiales sobre las infernales, de la virtud sobre el vicio como lo simboliza la victoria de Krishna y Satyabhama sobre Narakasura, del impulso hacia lo celestial sobre el impulso hacia lo infernal. Sathya, la Verdad, siempre vencerá a las fuerzas de la falsedad. Ese es el significado interno de que Satyabhama haya sido el instrumento usado por el Señor para destruir a Narakasura. Cuando Narakasura fue destruido, es decir, cuando los seis enemigos de los seres humanos (lujuria, ira, avaricia, deseo, orgullo y celos) que los arrastran hacia una caída son vencidos, la llama de la sabiduría alumbra clara, brillante
y hermosa. Es con el fin de demostrar esta verdad que en el día de Deepavali, se encienden “deepas” o lámparas y se colocan en cada casa, disipando la oscuridad que es el hogar del mal y del vicio. Discurso Divino Discurso del 11 de noviembre de 1966.

 

Navarathri is celebrated in commemoration of the victory of Daivatwam (Divinity) over Danavatvam (demons) through the intercession of the Mahashakti as Chandi, Durga and Kali. Deepavali commemorates the victory of heavenly over hellish influences; of virtue over vice as symbolised by the victory of Krishna-Satyabhama over Narakasura; of the upward pull into heaven and the drag down into hell. Sathya or Truth will always defeat the forces of falsehood. That is the inner significance of Satyabhama being the instrument which the Lord used to destroy Narakasura. When Narakasura was destroyed, implying, when the six foes of human beings (lust, anger, greed, infatuation, pride and jealousy) which drag them towards a fall are overpowered, the flame of wisdom will shine clearly, bright and beautiful. It is to demonstrate this truth that on Deepavali day, deepas or lamps are lit and arranged in every house, dispelling darkness which is the home of evil and
