Cada cosa tiene su Dharma. El agua tiene como su Dharma la naturaleza y la obligación de moverse. El fuego, el Dharma de quemar y consumir, y el imán, el de atraer hacia sí. Cada uno de ellos mantiene su Dharma sin cambios, incluyendo al sistema solar y las estrellas en el firmamento. Entre las cosas dotadas de conciencia o Chaitanya —las plantas y los árboles, los insectos, las aves, que nacen de huevos, o los mamíferos— todos han logrado atesorar sus Dharmas específicos sin que los afectara el paso del tiempo. Sin embargo, el ser humano, cuya inteligencia abarca desde lo inerte y lo infinitesimal hasta la supraconciencia y lo universal, es la única cosa viviente que ha resbalado y se desliza cuesta abajo. Se desdeña la experiencia de muchas generaciones de buscadores que exploraron los medios para el contento y la alegría, encarnada en los preceptos para la vida
práctica llamados colectivamente Shaastras, mientras que novedosas panaceas se recomiendan y prueban en una vasta escala. (Divino Discurso, 15 de abril de 1964)

 

Every single thing has its Dharma. Water has as its Dharma, the nature and obligation to move. Fire, the Dharma to burn and consume. And the magnet, to attract and draw unto itself. Every one of these is keeping up its Dharma unchanged, including the Solar system and the stars of the firmament. Among the things endowed with Consciousness or Chaithanya – the plants and trees, the insects and the birds, born out of eggs or the mammals – all have managed to treasure their specific Dharmas unaffected through the passage of time. But the human being, whose intelligence sweeps from the inert and the infinitesimal to the Super-conscious and the Universal, is the only living thing that has slipped, and is sliding down. The experience of many generations of seekers, who sought the means of contentment and joy, embodied in the precepts of practical living collectively called Shaastras is neglected, and new-fangled nostrums are recommended and tried on a vast

El Dharma dice «Satyam vada» y «Dharmam Chara»: hablar con la verdad y practicar la rectitud. «Sathyannasti paro dharmah»: no hay mejor factor estabilizante para la sociedad, ni mayor apoyo para el progreso individual, que Satya, la verdad. Ocultar la verdad, pervertirla o deformarla, son signos de cobardía; ninguna persona sincera se rebajará a ocultar el rostro de la verdad. Además, deben saber que el mandato védico es «Dharmam chara»: practiquen el Dharma. No es suficiente con aprender acerca del mismo; deben actuarlo, llenar cada momento con palabras, acciones y pensamientos que reflejen su conciencia del Dharma. Ese tipo de vida es el sello distintivo de lo que se llama seelam (el carácter), en declaraciones como «Seelam param bhushanam»: el carácter es la joya más preciosa. Deben examinar cada momento de su tiempo vigil, controlando si observan los preceptos del Dharma o se desvían de
ellos. (Divino Discurso, 15 de abril de 1964)

 

Dharma says ‘Satyam vada’ and ‘Dharmam chara’: Speak the truth and practise righteousness. Sathyannasti paro dharmah: there is no better stabilising factor in society, no more support for individual progress than Satya, Truth. Hiding the truth or perverting it or denying it or defacing it are all signs of cowardice; no bold person will stoop to cover the face of Truth. Besides, you must know that the Vedic injunction is: “Dharmam chara – Practise Dharma.» It is not enough if you learn about it; you must act it, fill every moment with word, deed and thought that reflect your awareness of Dharma. That type of living is the hallmark of what is called seelam (character) in statements such as “Seelam param bhushanam – Character is the most precious jewel.» You must examine every moment of your waking time to check if you are observing the precepts of Dharma or straying away! Ustedes van de lugar en lugar como encomiendas postales, coleccionando impresiones en el envoltorio exterior, no en el centro de su ser. Un ciego que visita lugares no se preocupa por que sea de día o de noche. De la misma manera, ustedes no diferencian entre un sitio y otro. Se comportan con la misma despreocupación, centrada en los sentidos, en todo tipo de lugares. No permiten que lo sagrado del lugar actúe sobre su mente. Como resultado de los peregrinajes, sus hábitos deben cambiar para bien, su perspectiva tiene que ampliarse y su visión interior debe profundizarse y hacerse más estable. Deben darse cuenta de la omnipresencia de Dios y de la unidad de la humanidad. Deben aprender la tolerancia y la paciencia, la caridad y el servicio. Finalizada la peregrinación, sentados en su hogar, deben reflexionar sobre sus experiencias y decidirse a buscar la más elevada, más rica y más
real experiencia de tomar conciencia de Dios. Los bendigo para que puedan adoptar esta determinación, y esforzándose paso a paso, alcancen esa meta. (Divino Discurso, 28 de febrero de 1964)

 

You go from place to place, like postal parcels, collecting impressions on the outer wrapper, not on the core of your being. A blind man going places is not worried whether it is night or day. So too, you do not differentiate between one place and another. You behave equally unconcerned, equally senses-centred, in all types of places. You do not allow the holiness of the place to act on your mind. As a result of pilgrimages, your habits must change for the better, your outlook must widen, and your inward look must become deeper and become more-steady. You must realise the Omnipresence of God, and Oneness of Humanity. You must learn tolerance and patience, charity and service. After the pilgrimage is over, sitting in your own home, you must ruminate over your experiences and determine to seek the higher, richer and more real experience of God-realisation. I bless you that you may form that determination, and striving step by step, achieve that Goal.
