¿Puede un burro convertirse en un elefante simplemente porque transporta un manojo de sándalo? ¡Él puede apreciar el peso pero no el aroma! En cambio el elefante no tiene en cuenta el peso, él inhala el dulce aroma, ¿no es así? Así también, el aspirante espiritual, el renunciante o el devoto tomará solo la verdad pura, la esencia pura de las buenas actividades, de la divinidad y de las escrituras, Vedas y Upanishads. Por otro lado, alguien que continúa discutiendo por la mera erudición, el conocimiento y la disputa, ¡solo conocerá el peso de la lógica y perderá el aroma de la verdad! Para aquellos en busca de la esencia, la carga no importa. Si se emplea la mera razón, no se gana nada que valga la pena. El amor (prema) es el gran instrumento para el recuerdo constante del Señor. Para mantener ese instrumento seguro y fuerte, no
se necesita ningún otro instrumento más que la vaina del discernimiento (viveka). (Prema Vahini, capítulo 44, edición en inglés)

 

Can an ass change into an elephant simply by carrying a bundle of sandalwood? It may appreciate the weight but not the scent! But the elephant pays no regard to the weight; it inhales the sweet scent, right? So too, the spiritual aspirant, renunciant, or devotee will take in only the pure truth, the pure essence of good activities, of Godliness, and of the scriptures, Vedas, and Upanishads. On the other hand, one who goes on arguing for the sake of mere scholarship, learning and disputation will know only the weight of logic and will miss the scent of truth! For those in search of the essence, the burden is no consideration. If mere reason is employed, nothing worthwhile is gained. Love (prema) is the one big instrument for the constant remembrance of the Lord. Keeping that instrument safe and strong needs no other appliance than the scabbard of discrimination (viveka).
