El estudio de las escrituras puede reforzar las ansias espirituales que ya existen en ustedes e inducirlos a practicar los preceptos. No traten al aprendizaje que deriva de ello solo como alimento para el cerebro. Debe ser sublimado en bienaventuranza (ananda) para el individuo. Los rasgos malvados como la envidia, la ostentación y el egoísmo, deben ser expulsados del individuo. La fuente de la sabiduría es el Guru, el alma (Purusha) latente en ustedes. Este tesoro espiritual también se puede obtener de otros. Sin embargo, el dador deberá poseer el logro supremo y el receptor deberá poseer el mérito especial que este logro exige. La semilla puede tener vida en ella, pero la tierra debe ser arada y preparada para activarla. Cuando se cumplen ambas condiciones, la cosecha del éxito espiritual está asegurada. Recuerden: ¡el verdadero Guru les roba el corazón, no su riqueza!

Study of the scriptures can reinforce the spiritual urges already in you and induce you to practise the precepts. Don’t treat the learning you derive from them as so much fodder for the brain. It must be sublimated into bliss (ananda) for the individual. Envy, pompousness, egotism — such evil traits have to be driven out of the individual. The source for wisdom is the Guru, the soul (Purusha) latent in you. This spiritual treasure can be obtained from others too. However, the giver has to possess supreme attainment, and the recipient has to possess the special merit that deserves the achievement. The seed may have life in it, but the soil must be ploughed and made fit to activate it. When both conditions are satisfied, the harvest of spiritual success is assured. Remember, the real guru steals your heart, not your wealth! (Sathya Sai Vahini, Chapter 13)
