Cuando nuestra ropa se mancha, nos avergüenza mostrarnos con la vestimenta sucia y entonces nos cambiamos. Limpiamos nuestras casas regularmente para quitar toda suciedad y mantenerlas limpias para la familia y amigos. ¡Pero cuando nuestras mentes y corazones están contaminados no sentimos vergüenza! ¿No es extraño que debamos dar tanta importancia a la limpieza de nuestras ropas y hogares, pero no nos concierna la pureza de nuestros corazones y mentes los cuales afectan toda nuestra vida? Para purificar nuestros corazones y mentes, la primera cosa que debemos hacer es llevar una vida correcta. Nuestras acciones deben ser señal de naturaleza humana. La maldad que le causamos a otros en última instancia recae sobre nosotros. Los días auspiciosos como los festivales deberían ser usados para tomar resoluciones de cambiar nuestras formas de vida y purificar nuestro comportamiento

When our clothes get soiled, we are ashamed to appear in dirty garments and so we change them. We clean our houses regularly and remove all dirt to keep it clean for family and friends. But when our minds and hearts are polluted, we do not feel ashamed! Is it not strange that we should be so much concerned about the cleanness of our clothes or our homes, but are not concerned about the purity of our hearts and minds which affect our entire life? To purify our hearts and minds, the first thing we must do is to lead a righteous life. Our actions must be based on morality. Indulging in abuse of others or inflicting pain on them is not a sign of human nature. The evil that we do to others ultimately recoils on us. Auspicious days like festivals should be used for making resolutions to change our ways of life and to purify our behaviour by giving up all bad qualities. (Divine Discourse, Apr 02, 1984)
