No solo tenemos el “Mahashivaratri” una vez al año, sino que también tenemos un “Shivaratri” cada mes dedicado a la adoración de Shiva. ¿Y por qué es tan importante este “ratri” (noche)? La noche está dominada por la Luna. La Luna tiene 16 “kalas” (fracciones de la gloria divina); y cada día, o más bien cada noche, durante la quincena oscura, se reduce una fracción, hasta que toda la Luna es aniquilada en la noche de la Luna Nueva. A partir de entonces, cada noche se agrega una fracción, hasta que la Luna es un círculo completo en la noche de la Luna Llena. La Luna es la deidad que preside la mente; la mente crece y decrece como la Luna. “Chandrama manaso jatha”: De la mente del “Purusha” (Ser Supremo), nació la Luna. Debe recordarse que el objetivo principal de todo “sadhana” es
eliminar la mente y convertirse en “Amanaska”. Solo entonces “maya” (ilusión) puede ser removida y la realidad revelada. Discurso Divino del “Mahashivaratri” en febrero de 1969.
We have not only the Maha Shivaratri once a year, we have a Shivaratri every month, dedicated to the worship of Shiva. And why is this ratri (night) so important? The night is dominated by the Moon. The Moon has 16 kalas (fractions of divine glory), and each day or rather night, during the dark fortnight, one fraction is reduced, until the entire Moon is annihilated on the New-Moon night. From then on, each night, a fraction is added, until the Moon is a full circle on the Full-Moon night. The Moon is the presiding deity of the mind; the mind waxes and wanes just like the Moon. Chandrama manaso jatha – Out of the mind of the Purusha (Supreme Being), the Moon was born. It must be remembered that the chief aim of all sadhana is to eliminate the mind and become an Amanaska.
